How To Plan A Road Trip

Summers here! It’s time to put your shades on, put the roof down and hit the road. But before you do, you will need a plan for your road trip. We here at MotorServ UK have put together some tips to help you plan the perfect road trip.

Destination

Before you even step foot in your car, you need to know where you want to go. If it’s your first road trip, it might be better to start small and choose a destination that’s closer to where you set off. Maybe visit a city that’s only a couple of hours away that you have never been to before?  Or a national park trip with your family?

Once you have been on a few road trips and know what to expect, you can start thinking about going further. Going across the nation or maybe even driving on an American road? Experience and a good road trip plan are essential to consider when thinking of going on a long road trip.

Your Route

If you know where you are going, you need to know how you will get there. You can do this the old-fashioned way by looking at the starting point on a road map and drawing on your route. Alternatively, you can do it with your smartphone on something such as Google maps. This way will enable you to see the fastest route and any traffic updates on your journey.

Of course, it’s not always about speed when it comes to a road trip. Sometimes it’s worth taking the scenic route? Or maybe you want to make some scheduled stops for some fast food? The speed of travel is something you need to consider when planning your road trip and how it can affect timing.

Your Car

The next thing to consider is the car that you will be driving in. Some cars just aren’t built for long road trips. Lack of comfort, lack of space or maybe just the cost of fuel might be contributing factors. The car you drive is up to you but there are certainly different cars that will make your road trip experience much more enjoyable.

Some examples of cars built for road trips are convertibles, sports cars, 4×4’s, SUVs, etc. The bigger the car, the more likely you are going to have space and comfort. You will be able to have more people in your car to take with you. However, sporty convertibles do also have their benefits. Speed and open roofs on a  sunny day can really put you in a  feel-good mood on your way to your destination.

Entertainment

No matter how much you love driving, it isn’t always going to be the most entertaining thing (especially for your passengers). Having some source of entertainment on your road trip can be very important!

A classic choice of entertainment is music. Make a playlist with your favourite songs and play it whilst you are on your journey. Another option would be having DVD players for your passengers. This way they can watch films whilst you drive!

Be Prepared

When you are on the road, you never know what journey lies ahead of you. That’s why it can be handy to be prepared for almost anything. The more prepared you are the better!

Having a check before setting off can massively reduce the risk of a breakdown when you are driving.

Some examples of things that you can do before setting off are: getting your oil changed, refilling wiper fluid, checking lights are working etc. It is also worth having your vehicle checked by a professional. If you do need to get your car checked then make sure to speak to a professional here at MotorServ UK.

So before you set off on your road trip, make sure to consider all of the points above. If you need to find the perfect road trip car or you want to get your car serviced, then make sure to speak to a member of our team here at MotorServ UK.
